Participants will learn a brief history of the art of cut paper – from the invention of paper in China to how these artistic traditions travelled through the trade routes to Europe and then to the US. The differences between traditions and the work of the folk and fine artists who promoted this art form through their passion for cutting will also be explored. Participants will learn several styles of cutting including 2-fold, single fold, no fold and layering of color. They will learn to understand the positive and negative spaces in design. Instructor will share her design process and demonstrate styles of papercutting. No experience is necessary.
