For some parents, going home after work means facing a nightly homework war. A parent and child struggle for hours to do what should be 20-30 minutes of homework. How is the life like for the child and the family every night?
Well… in many cases a vision problem may be the culprit. If your child has an undiagnosed vision problem, print on a page may be blurred, doubled, or even swimming around and it makes too hard to get through.
Learning-related vision problems that can cause these issues include poor eye teaming at near and poor visual tracking. These deficits are not picked up on during school and pediatrician eyesight screenings. In fact, many routine eye exams frequently miss these problems as well. These learning-related vision problems impact reading, writing, comprehension, and even attention. So, it is not unusual for a child with learning related vision issues, who has just had a very long day struggling at school to resist when asked to do even more near work at home.
