Yale Science Diplomats present the fourth of five Science in the News talks this spring: “Flesh, Blood, and Bone: Unraveling the Mysteries of Evolution.” Earth is home to a startling variety of life, from giant whales to tiny insects. But how did such a variety of life come about, and how did life change over time? The theory of evolution attempts to answer these questions, but evolution is not as simple as we once thought. Scientists can look at the Flesh of a bird and how it uses wings to fly, look at its Blood and determine how its genes have created the wing itself, and look at the Bones of its ancestors to determine how birds even learned to fly. This installment of Science in the News will describe the various answers to the question "What is Evolution?" and how it explains the myriad of life around us. Talks are open and free to the public! Wednesday, April 17th @ 6:30PM - New Canaan Library (151 Main St, New Canaan) Monday, April 22nd @ 6:30PM - New Haven Free Public Library, Mitchell Branch (37 Harrison St, New Haven) Wednesday, April 24th @ 7:00PM - Guilford Free Library (67 Park St, Guilford) Science in the News brings science to the general public in the form of an annual lecture series held at public libraries in the New Haven area. Graduate students and postdocs deliver talks on current topics in science, ranging from the microbiome to the feasibility of a real-life Jurassic Park. Reading materials and a vibrant Q&A session further engage attendees in discussion. Our goal is to make science fun and accessible to people of all ages and backgrounds. We want to provide people with a better understanding of the science underpinning many of the complex issues we hear about in the news every day.
