Yale Needs Women - How the First Group of Girls Rewrote the Rules of an Ivy League Giant - Please join us on Thursday, January 21, 2021 from 7:00-8:00 pm for a virtual event with Anne Gardiner Perkins. Anne will provide an overview of her book and take questions from the virtual audience. Anne will be joined by two of the first class of women at Yale College, Kay Hill and Connie Royster, who is one the five women whose stories form the backbone of the book. "Yale University, along with most of America’s top colleges, kept its gates closed to women undergraduates until the fall of 1969. The reason for letting them in? As an incentive for men to attend. Yale Needs Women is the story of why the most elite schools in the nation refused women for so long, and what the first women to enter those halls faced when they stepped onto campus."Yale Needs Women, based on six years of archival research and eighty oral histories, chronicles the early years of undergraduate coeducation at Yale, 1969-1972. It received strong reviews in the New York Times and The Washington Post, and was named by Forbes magazine as one of the top ten higher education books of 2019."This stunning, engaging work highlights the strength and courage of women who fought for their future against centuries of patriarchy."
